So, the first album I am reviewing, is “The Ride Majestic”. The tenth studio effort from the swedish melodic death metal stalwarts, Soilwork. I was seriously late to the game with these guys. I had never even heard of them until 2013, when they released their acclaimed double album, “The Living Infinite”. It’s not often in metal that a band releases a double album of new material, so when it happens, it really commands your attention, so that was my in road with the band. After listening to the new stuff, I went back and got familiar with their back catalogue. Suffice it to say that i’m a Soilwork fan through and through.
I don’t know why this happened this way in particular, but I never really came back to this album after the first couple of listens. The shuffle function on my media players really had a bias against this album in particular, so that definitely hurts how much I listen to an album for sure. Nothing about this album immediately jumped out at me, is another part of it. While I liked what I was hearing, it just didn’t grab me in that same way as The Living Infinite had. I think this is definitely an album that needs multiple spins to really hear everything that is going on.
I’m sure this will be an album that as time marches on, will see more play from me, but for now, I just don’t have the familiarity or comfort with it to say anything else about it at this time.
